Clinical significance: Blood urea nitrogen BUN is mainly discharged through glomerular filtration, and the renal tubules are also excreted. When the renal parenchyma is damaged, the glomerular filtration rate decreases, leading to an increase in BUN concentration. Therefore, measuring BUN can roughly observe the glomerular filtration function. But its sensitivity is worse than that of serum creatinine.
