Clinical significance:

Increase: indicating excess alkali reserves

(1) Metabolic alkalosis: pyloric infarction (massive loss of gastric acid), obstruction of upper part of small intestine, potassium deficiency, excessive alkaline drugs (or poisoning).

(2) Respiratory acidosis: respiratory obstruction, severe emphysema, bronchiectasis, pneumothorax, emphysema, pulmonary consolidation of pulmonary encephalopathy, pulmonary fibrosis, respiratory muscle paralysis, compensatory respiratory acidosis.

(3) High fever, excessive exhalation of carbon dioxide.

(4) Hyperfunction of adrenal cortex, excessive use of adrenocortical hormone.

Decrease: insufficient alkali reserve

(1) Metabolic acidosis: diabetes ketoacidosis, renal failure, uremia, infectious shock, severe dehydration, epidemic hemorrhagic fever (hypotension and oliguria), chronic adrenal cortical dysfunction, and excessive acid drugs.

(2) Respiratory alkalosis: the respiratory center is excited (breathing is accelerated, hyperventilation, excessive carbon dioxide inhalation).

(3) Kidney diseases: glomerulonephritis, renal tubular acidosis, pyelonephritis, renal tuberculosis.

Intended use: This kit is used to quantitatively determine the concentration of carbon dioxide in human serum in vitro, and can assist in the diagnosis of metabolic alkalosis and metabolic acidosis.
